Annual Valentine's Day Dance

February 22nd, 2016 by Jenna Riedi

Over the past year, Boys & Girls Clubs of Larimer County, Loveland Unit Keystone Club has been fundraising for their National Conference.  Keystone is a national program that fosters a sense of civic duty in Club members age 14-18. Focused on leadership and service to Club and community, members at the Loveland Unit participate in Club clean-ups, visit a local Alzheimer facility monthly, and have highway clean ups.  Members also participate in career exploration and academic success projects.

Held in Dallas, TX this year, the Keystone National Conference will be celebrating the Year of the Teen, a national initiative to encourage teens to attend their local BGCs.  The conference offers members a chance to connect with Keystoners from around the world.  Members go on career exploration and college tours, participate in team building and learn how to better impact their community.  In order to attend this year's conference, our Keystone members have held movie nights and dances for Club members, raising over $3,000.  By sacrificing many Friday nights, these hard working teens have earned enough to attend this year's conference.  One such event was our annual Valentine's Day Dance!

Always a hit, over 60 Boys & Girls Club members were in attendance.  One of our activities this year was a " Love is..." photo booth.  Answers included "Love is... The BGC", "Love is ... true friendship from the heart", and " Love is...AWESOME".

Meet Gillian, Events & Grants Specialist!

February 22nd, 2016 by Jenna Riedi

GillianSince July 2015, Gillian has been our Events & Grants Specialist and has been doing an absolutely amazing job!  Her attention to detail and positive attitude has yielded some great events and grant awards. When not at the Club, Gillian can be found hanging out with her dog, Kitty, or her fiance, Geoff. Read on to learn more about Gillian!

1. What is your favorite food?
Cookies, no, burgers, no, pizza, no, ice cream!  Do I have to pick just one?  If I had to, it would have to be cookies!

2. What is your ideal vacation?
My ideal vacation would have to be traveling to Spain.  I would love to walk along the beautiful beaches and immerse myself in their culture!

3. If you were trapped on an Island, what three things would you bring with you?
I am a talker so I would have to bring someone to talk to and I would probably be in trouble if I said anyone beside my wonderful fiance. 😉  Of course I would bring a huge oatmeal raisin cookie from Mary's Mountain Cookies!  The last thing I would bring would be my dog, Kitty!

4. What is a unique talent you have?
If I am watching an episode of Friends, I can recite almost every line.  I know that probably means I have watched every episode wayyy too many times, but I can't help it.

5. What do you enjoy most about working at the Boys & Girls Club?
I have really enjoyed getting to know everyone that I work with, the kids we serve and the Larimer County community.  Everyone brings something different to the table and has their own unique way of showing their passions!

BGCLC Reflects on Partnership with Wellington Assisted Living

February 16th, 2016 by Jenna Riedi

Upon learning of the loss of Kathy Mueller, the Boys and Girls Club of Wellington would like to reminisce on our community partnership and share how Kathy Mueller and the Wellington Assisted Living left a positive impact for our Club members and the community.

The experiences our Club members have are visiting the Wellington Assisted Living for Bingo, Christmas activities, and stopping by to say hello to their Pen Pals.  Last summer, our Club members planned and carried out a successful car wash with the assistance of the Wellington Fire Department.  Together we raised over $400 and gave all the proceeds to the Wellington Assisted Living.  Our Club members have immensely enjoyed their time with the Wellington Assisted Living.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Larimer County, Wellington Unit would like to express thanks for the wonderful partnership with the Wellington Assisted Living and with Kathy Mueller.  She will be dearly missed.
